MAMA Honey: Sweetening Lives, One Hive at a Time
Beekeeping in East Pokot isn’t just a livelihood—it’s a lifeline. In a region facing poverty, drought, and limited economic opportunity, our MAMA Honey initiative empowers women and youth with income-generating skills that also support maternal health.
Through our community apiary in Orus, we are creating a sustainable local business that strengthens household resilience while contributing profits back to our maternity center.
What We’re Doing
Launched in 2023, the MAMA Honey project currently operates:
- 11 active Langstroth hives at our Orus Center
- Hands-on training for women and youth in hive management, honey harvesting, and safe handling
- Emergency honey distributions during droughts
- Local sale of raw honey to fund health services
We are working toward building an end-to-end honey value chain—from production to processing, packaging, and sales.
