MAMA Maternity & Wellness Center: Dignity in Every Birth
In East Pokot, giving birth is often a life-or-death experience. Women walk over 50–100 km in search of skilled care—or deliver at home, unassisted and at risk. That’s why we built the MAMA Maternity and Wellness Center in Orus: to ensure that no mother is left behind.
This solar-powered facility, developed through community mobilization and partnership, is transforming maternal care in one of Kenya’s most underserved regions.
What MAMA CBO IS Doing
At the heart of MAMA CBO’s work is the MAMA Maternity & Wellness Center. Built in 2023, the center provides:
- Antenatal and postnatal care
- Skilled birth attendance by a full-time midwife
- Emergency support through a volunteer clinical officer
- Community outreach via trained CHPs and TBAs
- Health education sessions with men, youth, and elders
We work closely with the Tiaty East Sub County Health Office and local chiefs to integrate the center into the broader health system.
